Burgers and Greens

Happy Sunday! Today has been a busy day. Sundays are usually my time to rest and reset for the week ahead. You know, the usual saying “a Sunday well spent brings a week of content”? I, certainly, agree with that statement! I feel so much better knowing the chores are completed, and meals are prepped for the week. If that’s all I need to feel somewhat organized during a busy work week, then I’m golden. So, amongst the piles of laundry and errand running, I happened to include tonight’s meal in my grocery store run/meal prep afternoon. Here ya go! Have a great evening!

1 lb lean ground beef (I use the 93/7 but choose your favorite)

Garlic powder

Onion powder



Seasoned salt

1 yellow onion, sliced

Fresh arugula (for lettuce bed)

1-2 Tbsp Olive oil

Warm a cast iron skillet with 1Tbsp olive oil over medium-high heat. If you do not have a cast iron, I recommend an oven safe pan. Combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl. Then, shape 4 patties (about 4oz each). I typically do not measure the spices😬😬😬 I usually eyeball these depending on my mood and taste. If you’re not sure, about a teaspoon each and half a teaspoon of pepper. Once the patties are formed, sprinkle seasoned salt lightly over the top. Place patties in the skillet to cook about 4 minutes each side. Then, place in the oven for about 5-10 minutes, depending on your ‘doneness of meat’ preference. 

While this is cooking, warm about a tablespoon of olive oil in a nonstick skillet on medium-high heat. Place the sliced onions in the pan and cook until browned and caramelized. 

Remove patties from the oven, and place a patty on a bed of arugula(about a cup). Top with caramelized onions, and you’re good to go. I sometimes will add a dressing of choice or a smidge of ketchup. I served sweet potato fries with this. The husband loves a good hamburger steak 👌🏼
